What’s Going On?

November 13, 2025: Reading at Spokane Riverkeeper’s Spoken River Event

Got to share a very short story of mine called “The Fall” alongside four other incredibly talented readers at Spoken River, the Spokane Riverkeeper’s annual fundraising event. Over the course of the evening, the Riverkeeper raised over $100,000 for the protection, preservation, and restoration of the Spokane River. Check out the Spokane Riverkeeper website for more information about the event and the organization, and consider donating or getting involved if you’re in the area!

November 12, 2025: CRAFT First Chapters Contest Longlist

Another wonderful shoutout for making the longlist of the 2025 CRAFT First Chapters Contest with my manuscript, A Hole Inside You, With the Wind Rushing Through. The winners were also announced, and I’m stoked to read these when they’re published in December.

November 12, 2025: “Nothing but Naked Earth” in Consequence

My story “Nothing but Naked Earth” is now out in volume 17.2 of Consequence. The journal is produced by Consequence Forum, an organization that “addresses the consequences, realities, and experiences of war and geopolitical violence through literature, art, and community events.” The issue is available as an e-journal, but you can nab a physical copy as well. The issue features a ton of great (and often harrowing) work. Highly recommend picking up a copy.

August 10, 2025: Baltimore Review 2025 Print Edition

The print edition of Baltimore Review 2025 featuring my story “Hold Fast to Guard Us” is available! Lots of phenomenal work in here. Don’t miss out on it!

January 25, 2025: “Hold Fast to Guard Us” in the Baltimore Review

A new story of mine (sort of new, anyway, written way back in 2020) titled “Hold Fast to Guard Us” has been picked up by the lovely folks at the Baltimore Review for their winter 2025 issue. The issue is now online, with a print edition of Baltimore Review 2025 including the story (plus, presumably, a ton of other great work) to follow.

January 6, 2025: Recording of PEN Virtual Reading

A recording of the December 19 reading from the winners of the PEN/Dau prize is officially live on YouTube. Highly recommend checking it out here if you couldn’t catch it live, and not just because I’m in it. In fact, you can skip that part if you want. The rest of these readings are just killer.

December 19, 2024: Virtual Reading by Winners of the 2024 PEN/Dau Short Story Prize

Virtual readings: everyone’s favorite relic of the pandemic era. Still, this one features some crazy talented voices. Watch me suffer from serious Zoom sweats while the rest of these brilliant writers knock it out of the park. By which I mean they’ll leave you joyful, heartbroken, and all kinds of stoked about the future of the short story.

December 9, 2024: CRAFT Dialogue Challenge Longlist

Lovely shoutout for making the longlist of CRAFT’s 2024 dialogue challenge with the super short, dialogue-only story “Black Sunday.” The winner was Catherine Buck with “The Devil Alive in New Jersey.” Excited to check it out when January 2025 rolls around.
